Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) – Asymptomatic
We recommend monitoring asymptomatic FIV cats regularly by undergoing medical examination and Complete Blood Count (CBC) test and observing for early signs like gingivitis, stomatitis quarterly. Should there be an onset of symptoms or a downward trend in the CBC parameters, then you can begin treatment with RetroMAD1.
However, if you would like to treat your cat while it is asymptomatic, then RetroMAD1 can be administered as follows:
1) By Oral Route:
- Dose: Ideally 0.30ml per kg, 30 – 45 minutes before a meal, food supplement or probiotics for optimal absorption.
- Daily: 2 times a day with intervals not more than 12 hours apart.
2) Duration: FIV is for life and there is no known cure for the disease. We are aware some customers have treated their asymptomatic cats for a few years (with dosage reducing to 0.15mL per kg) while their cats continue to be FIV-positive. The intent is to ensure that the cat remains asymptomatic throughout so as to lead a normal and active life. Alternatively, you may wish to consider keeping the 30ml Starter Pack on standby so that RetroMAD1 can be given quickly in the event symptoms develop one day.
